Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey I just got a new welder last week and I am looking for some ideas on what some of you guys have welded up on your rigs to improve off road ability, add utitity, add strength, look cool, etc...

I am already considering building a rear bumper, adding a front range off road style severe use front gusset, and mabye some nerfs?

C'omon I know some of you guys have been slaving away on your projects this summer! Show and tell lets see em.

for me its been- sas, rear spring swap (chevys), FIXING RUST HOLES, and tons of little stuff. i plan on making bumpers and sliders as soon as time and money allow.

welding is probably the single most useful skill when building trucks, other than basic mechanical knowledge.

You can make a lot with a welder, chopsaw, and angle grinder. Here are some of my projects that I've used my welder for, working from easier to more complicated.

I can't begin to tell you how many other projects unrelated to my truck that I've used a welder for. If you get addicted to this stuff, you will have a list of things you want to do that far exceeds how much time you have available. For a beginner welder, I would start with box tube bumpers and sliders and make more stuff as your skill improves.

Having current pass through roller bearings is generally a BAD thing with a decidedly negative impact on bearing life if the current happens to arc from a roller to race.

Hence the reason you should connect the ground clamp to the carrier rather than the housing in order to prevent this.

Roll Me Over
Here is some of my projects.
Front Bumper
Skid Plate
Rock Slider
Rear Bumper
Roof Rack
'86 Front Bumper
'91 Flatbed project

Plus plenty of other items such as seat mounts, body panels, onboard air tanks, and exhaust systems(a couple of these and the welder pays for itself), then there are all the non-auto related items. I have found my welder to be as essential to my garage as a standard set of tools.
