talk about a very scary feeling the adjusting bolt for the torsoin bar snaped and felt like my truck droped 3ft. good thing is i ordered a new one from the dealer today but gotta wait 2 days for it. anyone else have this happen. also is there anything i need to know as far as installing the bolt again. i guess i just tighten it up untill both sides are equal off the ground?

lots of antiseize, a company that sounds like les schwab broke mine, might look for a hole in the floor where the torsion arm may have pierced the cab...

i was laying on my back under the front diff when mine snapped the one time. buddy of mine was torquing on it and i guess i trusted him a little too much when he said he didn't really need the weight off the tire (like i recommended)
thank god im not any bigger or i may have ruptured something! the crossmember came to rest right on my pelvis and hip bones. i coulda lost some very substantial things if it had fallin even another inch or too.

Mine broke on the driver's side once and I was in the Burger King drive thru. I was just handing the chick my money and "KAPOW", just like you said it felt like my truck fell 3 feet. I just looked at the chick and said the only thing I could think of...."That's not good"....she laughed....I did not...lol.

I had an after market A-arm snap in two, at the end of a trail...but that's another story.
I have had my adjusting bolts snap on me as I was trying to undo them. I think that's pretty common. The bolts have really long nuts on them with lots of threads, so once they corrode or get junk on the threads, and you try to back them out, they get locked tight and when undoing them something has to give and usually you end up twisting the bolt until it breaks, thinking that your just undoing a really tight nut.
Obviously, you should never try adjusting the bolts with weight on the truck, since they are then supporting half the truck's weight. I'm sure a few bolts have broke because of this, but mostly its because of the really long nuts and threads that lock the bolt tight when they get corroded and/or dirty.
As for breaking just sitting in a drivethrough or parked somewhere, the only explaination I have for that is that the bolt was probably already twisted and weaked from previously attempts to loosen it or tighten it. There is absolutely no reason that a stock bolt should ever just break for no reason while your driving or parked, even if they are old and original, in my opinion.

totally agree with brian, they are very prone to having the threads get marred up easily with corrosion or dirt and the like. For the same reason I've noticed when adjusting mine that they get VERY hot which can't help keep them in one piece either

These bolts break all the time...specially when over torqued or not cleaned before adjusting.
