I love my '98 T100. One thing about it makes me nervous, though, and that is the rear window glass right behind the head of anyone riding in the back seat. Getting rear-ended could be ugly if someone's head were to go through the glass.... Has anyone seen/done any modifications to the truck in this regard? I'll be having kids growing up soon and I'd like to have them in the back without any concerns.
thanks
Tim

I could be wrong but its saftey glass like the windshield. This means it wont shatter but it will crack badly. I dont know what you could really fab up other than to mod some headrests into the backs of the seat area.

Having been rear ended and blown out the rear window of the truck with my head I can say it wasn't that bad actually.
The glass is a safety glass (I've shattered several accidently, verifying this), and the whole window pops out quite nicely.
The thing to fear actually is you shooting out from under the seat belt, which I did. The rear seat mount collapsed in the wreck, and I went partially out the rear window.
This was with an old rusty early 80's truck. But the events would be the same for a new truck.

So in your personal info, when you say "body damage is cool", I guess it is not about the truck? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

The side and rear glass is tempered, which means that when it breaks it will shatter into a million tiny pieces. Unlike windshield glass, which is actually two layers of glass with a layer of plastic laminated between them (very strong). The windsheild is actually a structural part of the cab and provides a lot of its rigidity.

It seems that unless the whole section of glass were to pop out on impact with the head, there could still be some small fragments of glass still in the frame that would cut into the neck. I'm also a bit concerned about whiplash with no headrests. I'll try to come up with something if I don't find any examples. thanks.

there is another post from last year on this topic, might search for it...others in the desert scene have removed the rear seat and put a single bucket in the middle, my daughter sits in the back seat in a child seat that goes upto 100lbs...she is now 20lbs. so ive got a while to worry about it, but ill probably put a 2 seat high back suspension bench seat back there when the time calls for it.

I did a search and found nothing on the subject. Maybe I didn't look far enough back. Anyway, do you have a make/model in mind regarding the high back bench seats?

not really right now, probably a mastercraft or beard brand, not sure about fitment issues though...

Good luck. I'd be interested to know how it turns out.
