Getting the Wheeling Fever
Got the autopal off of ebay.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!I put the 55/100 bulbs in,nice pattern with square cuttoff.Good spread on low beam,but high beam is like daylight.I can see deer half mile down the road.Autopal are the normal looking headlights,not that crystal diamond projector crap.Truck looks all stock ,but lights up the night.

You might also want to check the voltage at the back of the headlight connectors. With the higher wattage high beams, you may not be getting full voltage (or brightness) with the stock wires (I know I didn't with the 55/100s):

Of course Im in the US of A.Right next to Spotyslvania Courthose battleground Virginia,honoring the fight for Southern Independance and those who have fallen for it.I always called it a truck,but I figured Hilux was the proper name.I'll just go back to pickup.BTW,whats an SFA?

SFA = solid front axle

the Hilux is generally a term applied to the non-us version of the Pickup, at least as far as i know. And generally the Hilux's have a solid front axle and sometimes even the option of the 22r diesel motor.

The U.S. only got a glimpse of this model back in the early 80's. I think Hilux's still come with SFA and Diesels right into the late 90's, AFAIK

I'd kill for a solid axle diesel toyota <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />

Toyota has called its mini trucks the Hilux going back to the 1970s. For some reason in the early to mid 1980s, they just called it a pick up for the North American market. I'm sure it had something to do with marketing somehow.

However everywhere else in the world, through today, it's still called a Hilux. I wouldn't be surprised if in some official documentation, the pre-95 North American trucks are still called Hiluxs, since things like titles, registrations, and NHTSA recalls sometimes probably wouldn't accept just "pick-up" as a vehicle name, but the name isn't on any badging like overseas trucks.

In 1995, when Toyota completely butchered, I mean....redesigned the pick-up, they decided to go back to giving it an official name in North America to distinquish the North American pavement pounder from the overseas workhorse.

The Hilux kept the solid front axle as a standard feature through 1997, although some high end overseas models did get IFS just like all the North American models did in 1986, and all 4Runners/Surfs got the IFS from 1986 onward.

When Toyota finally standardized the IFS with all Hiluxes in 1997, they went with the older style torsion bar, ball steering IFS that North American models quit using in 1995. In an ironic twist, since 2005, both the Hilux and Tacoma share the same all new (for the pickups) front suspension, but the frames are quite different as are the bodies and drivetrains.

it'll be a sad day for me when i have to buy a taco for a daily driver (or for a 'wheeler) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

I think I'm on my last reliable Pickup. I won't find another one as clean as this.

Good info brian <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

I wish they called tehm Hilux here It would be so much easier at parts shops when you say "I have a toyota truck", and someone always says, "what kind?"

Way off topic, but you forgot something there.
