Hey ya! I thought you were told <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> and you said you got rid of that thing. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" /> That's reason enough for the motor to go cupit. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

Exhaust valves 2 and 3 look like they got a little hot though?

What would that be indicative of ?

?? maybe leaner mixture in those two cyls ??
Did you have the injectors cleaned/checked before re-installing them ? maybe they are a little lower flow ?

anyone else?
I'm curious too... also looks like intake on 4 is darker ?

That would be the oil filer I stuck on when I was taking the motor out so that oil excess didn't get everywhere. And IÆm glad I did. One I rolled the engine on its side (once it was on the engine stand) lots of oil came out. About 5 quarts. And that was with me draining it a week ago.

So to answer youÆre question, no I wasnÆt running a fram filer. I was running a K&N oil filter when it was running.

Well, I have to say, very disappointing! No metal shavings, no nothing. The oil intake tube thing, was pretty clean. A few small bits of black gasket seal on the screen. But nothing that could cause it to clog up. And it turns over very easily. Just like when it was new. So I guess IÆm going to have to pull the crank to see if a bearing let loose. But IÆm really not sure if thatÆs what the sound could have been.

Anyway as you can see it looks perfect.

5 qts came out AFTER draining the oil? I swear the 2.6 only holds about 5 qts when full. Maybe you overfilled it?

Well it was cold, and I had it jacked up kind of funny when I drain it (before I pulled the engine). And it probably wasn't 5 quarts that came out just now, maybe 3 or 4. And it holds 5.5 quarts with an oil filter change. So completely dry its probably 8 quarts. I canÆt find the number in the manual. But I suppose it possible that I had it overfilled. I did add a quart originally when it started making the bad sound, 6 months ago.

According to my manual here, it's 5.2 qts original factory fill and 4.2 qts w/ filter for a regular oil change.

It could very well likely be wrong then. I'll have to double check with my helm when I get a chance. But that's from the owners manual. I have noticed at least one entry that's wrong in the manual (3.2 US GALLONS for the manual tranny fill and 1.6 US GALLONS for the transfer case) so, it could very well be incorrect. I'll dig up my helm manual when I get a chance.

Steve-

What did the oil pump look like?

Did the pickup tube look properly seated/sealed in the block?

Did ya find a spare thrust bearing floating around, by any chance?

Michael
