Got the engine in the bay.
Got it mounted to the transmission. And I didnÆt even have to sing the Barney song. I used the ratchet strap again. But I hardly had to put any pressure on it. It just slid right in.

As you can see in the pic, IÆm having the same problem I had the last time around. The engine and transmission is sitting about an inch to far back. Anyway IÆll deal with that tomorrow.

Got some more done.

The Trans is all bolted up, along with the alternator, and motor mounts. I was going to mount the head but IÆm missing on of the little collar things that keep the engine and head aligned when youÆre mounting it. So IÆll have to pick one up on Monday.

Why did you not put the head on the block while it was on the stand?

Got the head installed. I'm not sure if its easer to install the head before or after the engine is in the bay. ItÆs a hell of a lot easer to install the alternator bolts. Its allot easer to install the transmission bolts, but mounting the head (with the intake attached) is not the easy thing to do. You definitely need to use an engine hoist or have another person help. ItÆs really not that heavy, but itÆs very awkward. Especially when youÆre trying to get the dowel pins to line up. So itÆs really just a trade off.

I know this was discussed the last time around but it couldnÆt find the post.

IÆm getting ready to set up the timing. IÆm trying to get the distributor gear pointed in the right position. But I canÆt remember how to tell. As I recall there was some sort of mark on the gear part of the distributor. Any ideas?

Oil pump works! Shot oil everywhere!

Is it just supposed to come out the ONE hole?

Some more done today;

I installed the cam. I have 3 and I decided to use the cam the was in the ôoriginalö Amigo engine. The one that was installed the ôoriginalö head that warped. So IÆm not sure if it too is bent, but I guess IÆll find out. Also; the cam is a reground ôhotö cam. So well see what that dose.

I also cleaned up and installed the rocker arm assembly. It was one of the few things that I didnÆt take apart and clean the last time around. And boy was it dirty! The inside of the passenger side shaft was full of crud. And the holes that are supposed to let oil get to the race things where completely packed full of burnt oil.

Well, it looks like the cam was bent. I installed the timing belt and at the half way mark of turning it, the belt would get a little slack, then turn it another 180 and it would get tight again. So IÆm going to install one of the other cams i have sitting here.

Can a bend cam shaft be straitened?
