Getting the Wheeling Fever
So I was supposed to get a lift done last week, but the place I was supposed to get it done at said it would cost me around 850 for a 3 inch spacer lift with 3 inch add-a-leafs in the back. I though that was really expensive so I didn't do it. Any opinions on what I should be paying? I have an '03 Prerunner XtraCab. If anyone knows a place in Santa Barbara, CA that does a good job on lifts for a decent price let me know. Thanks guys

Do it yourself for free. That is bull. More specifics would help but that sounds real high for what sounds like a simple lift. What kind of front lift is it?

Do it yourself. I put a 2.5 inch ToyTec Spacer and a 2 inch Toytec shackle in by myself. It is work but if you are careful with the spring compressor you can do it. That is too much to pay. I did all the work by myself.

Even if you dont want to mess with a spring compressor if you take them out and bring them to a shop they will do it for cheap (I think they charged me 10 or 20 and I was having them put new struts in and then a spacer). Certainly less than 850. Putting a shock tower in and out is easy, basic tools and such. Dont know about add-a-leafs though.

well the shop said that they would have to take apart my truck to do the lift. they were saying it would take them around 15-20 hours.... something about that they would have to take off some parts....

There isnt much to take apart up front except for disconnecting the sway bar, 3 top plate bolts, the lower shock bolt and then for putting it back you would have to undo the four bolts on the bottom of the hum assembly. I havent put in add-a-leafs though, I believe that is just unbolting the pack after removing the rear leaf spring bolt and then putting the new leaf in. You should ask them how much they are thinking they have to "take apart".

my first lift was a 3" coil spacer and shackle lift... paid $125 for the parts, and $80 for install... took them an hour to complete...

that was a couple years ago... have since gone with coilovers which can be done yourself... for $850, you're better off doing coilovers and install yourself...

I would do it myself. I have a 3 in. toytec lift with AAL in the rear. the whole lift took about 1/2 day (4-5hrs). borrow the coil spring compressor from an auto parts place (make sure your health insurance is current cause if anything goes wrong you might need a finger or hand sewn back on). or you can get the springs done at a local shop for next to nothing. The rear add a leafs are easy. There are tons of how to's for the lift kits online for tacos, plus the instructions for most lift kits are easy to follow. Important thing is take your time and follow directions!

Drive to PHX and I'll do it for free. I'm bored and it's easy.

Seriously, you can beg, borrow or steal the minimum tools to do a spacer lift and AAL's. 15 to 20 hours, , you are getting jerked around.

PM me and I'll give you my number and walk you through it if you like.
