Hello everybody,

I really need your guys help on this one. Whenever I brake the Montero will ALWAYS turn to the right. If I tap on the brake in the freeway it will want to go to the right, even if I go 5 mph and then brake, it will go to the right <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />. If I don't correct the movement, the steering wheel will actually turn to the right, about less that 1/8 of a turn, even at 5 mph. This has gotten worse as time has passed by.

I've been told that one possibility might be that one brake caliper is grabbing harder than the other one. Can this be correct? How can I check that? Any other advice or parts to look at would be appreciated. One alibi, I rear ended a 1994 Camry last year, it wasnÆt pretty for her, I was able to drive the Montero home though.

I will soon have the money to fix this problem, pay day on first of the month <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />. I will try to fix the problem by first changing the front two rotors; they are really worn and replace the brake shoes. I will then rebuild the calipers, if I can find the parts or kit and give it a 4 wheel alignment. Any other advice will be appreciated.

I have looked at the prices for the front rotors online; they range from $19.99 to about $72.00. (From Checkers and Autozone, my concern is which rotors wonÆt warp after a months use.) Which ones do you guys use and/or recommend to purchase.

I'd mainly look at the calipers. It's possible that one (the right-hand caliper) is sticking.

However, don't stop there. Look at your brake lines too. If the lines are the originals, it's possible that they could be deteriorated inside, causing them not to free-up pressure.

Also, look at your alignment. It's probably a brake issue, but alignment can contribute.

And make sure that if you change one side, change both sides. You shouldn't change (for example) only one caliper.

Every few thousand miles I have to take my calipers off and clean the dirty grease out, then reapply new grease. This keeps the calipers free.

I can always tell when it needs to be done because it gets that same brake pull you're talking about.
