I always use a gasket and NO SEALENT!! Lately the factory has been using pooky on several different gasket places. THIS is one of them.. But a gasket is easily available and I use them instead of the pooky.

If you have an AMC 20 rear you definitely need a gasket. It's optional on Dana 30's, IÆve done several Dana 30s, 35s and my 44 with just RTV silicone with no leaks, no problems, just try to keep it out of the diff! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Pooky! done correctly works just fine, gaskets done incorrectly leak. It is all in the prep and cleaning of surfaces. I've sealed many a amc 20 with just pooky, but the secret there is to let the (fairly large) bead of glop set up for 20 minutes or so before putting the cover on.
(put the pooky on the diff not on the cover)
