Getting the Wheeling Fever

I am looking for a good 4x4 that i can take to school and work but still do some four wheeling. nothing hard core (rock crawling) just fun short trips. what do you guys think would be a good first choice? i need good mpg. i plan to modify in the future. thanks.

pretty much, you are going to get a different response from everyone you ask, but im partial to older toyotas (4runner or pickup).
because: their cheap their reliable good fuel economy(my stock 4runner gets just under 25mpg) plenty of aftermarket support and they 4wheel very well even completly stock
just my opinion.

suzuki sidekick. they get good gas mileage, the ifs rides good on the road, and are more capable stock than most other vehicles (at least mine was, then i lifted it.)

sidekicks are good with 4x4? i thought they were tiny punny cars. do they roll easy? can i modify one easily?

ive done things with mine that should have rolled it, but ive never had problems. sidekicks are a lot more stable than samurais, they're fairly easy to modify, cheap, and reliable.

I know a few people who have trackers/sidekicks. They like them a lot. But my vote is for a Toyota

go toyota and never go back. 1st or Second Gen
