If you upgrade to higher wattage bulbs, plan on upgrading the wiring too. Otherwise you won't get the full effect.

http://www.rocky-road.com/ipfh4.htmlBest price I've found on them. I've got a set, and would gladly pay twice what I did. Makes future bulb changes/upgrades a snap since it converts it to regular H4 Bulbs.

Buy the upgraded wiring harness from 4crawler.
Then, buy some Hella Vision Plus headlights. Total replacement lights and newer style bulbs.
This combo makes a huge difference over stock and gets you to the newer style bulb connections. You can then carry replacement bulbs as spares instead of having to store / carry a whole new headlight assembly.
Easy upgrade and one of the best dollar for dollar upgrades I have done.
Thanks, James

If you're looking for the best, go with Cibie. I have the IPF H4 conversion headlamps, 4Crawler wiring harness, and 55/100 Hella bulbs, and while it is a huge improvement over stock, the Cibies are much better. Cost is hard to swallow, but man, I've never seen another halogen headlamp come close to the Cibies. If cost is an issue then the IPF or Hella H4 conversion lamps are good. Just be sure to get the wiring harness, that makes a noticeable difference by itself.

A lot of the headlight choice comes down to whether you want a DOT spec lamp or not. I run the Hellas, they work fine, much better than stock and they are DOT spec. I've run non-DOT lamps before, they were a bit better, but the worries of getting ticketed for running them was not worth the trouble. I did once get pulled over for a burned out headlight and had to end up eating the cost of the fix-it ticket since I could not get it inspected and signed off since I had the non-DOT lamps (in CA, you need to have headlight tickets inspected and signed off at an official headlight inspection station): - http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/Headlights.shtmlThe H4s are nice, gives you a wide selection of bulbs and it is easy to carry a spare in the truck. On my VW, I just put in the upgraded harness and found that the existing headlights worked so much better than I opted not to replace them.

Yeah, you do run the slim chance of getting ticketed for non-DOT lamps. Guess your choice will depend on what's important to you... Here's a good read, although I must warn you, *it is from a J@@p forum* <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> http://www.naxja.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-39615.html

Like this guy did: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=512977Got pulled over for one small thing then as they went over his rig with a fine tooth comb, found many more items. I figure I draw enough attention from the authorities, so no need to add anything that I can get nailed for. I try to keep things within the vehicle code, sometimes just barely, but that is all you need.
