I've found with my h4 conversion (by bosch) that the low beams are so-so, but the high beams are great.
When i put the lever half way, so both of them are on, the lighting is perfect.
Anyone know how to jerry-rig the high beams so the highs AND lows go on?

That is known as "flash" mode. Problem with long term use of flash mode is that the bulb and/or housing can overheat and cause problems, since you have both low and high beam filaments on at the same time.

What I do similar to that is set my fog lights up to stay on with the high (or low) beams. With the fogs filling in area just in front and to the sides of the vehicle and the highs down the road, it works fine. Only do so out in the back country, though.

I've been running the Cibies in my '86 for a few years now and they are one of my favorite simple upgrades.

With stock wattage bulbs the visibility is still far better than both my '97 4runner and T100 that have newer/fancier style lights that I used to think were great compared to the '86's stock lights. I would definitely buy them again. I've also never had a problem w/ LEO's, even when pulled over for other stuff (like broken tail lights :p ).

Also, for some reason, the way I wired the new harness I made makes both the hi and lo beams come on when in "hi" mode, and it hasn't seemed to shorten bulb life... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hmm. I've run Cibies in my old 86 truck. As well as Phillips, Sylvania, GE, etc. The Phillips were the best, by quite a bit. They just wouldn't last.
