i'm doing a valve adjustment on my t-100, and i can't seem to get any feeler guages in between the shims and camshafts. not one on the right side that i'm working on will allow me to slide one in. i'm doing it by whatever the haynes manual is saying. did it at tdc, 2/3 turn then another 2/3 turn. not even a 0.002 inch feeler guage fits in between any of them. could they all be out of specs by that much, or am i doing something wrong here? i've got 130,000 miles on the truck.

Its very unlikey that all the valves are out of spec. Sounds like you are probably doing something wrong, but its hard to tell what from the other side of the computer...

It may be time to invest in a FSM. Either that or pay the $10 and download it from Toyota (see the FAQ).

where can i purchase that valve lifter tool? i've seen them for sale on the internet, but was just wondering if it was something some auto stores would carry.

I ordered mine online, but if you can find a place that carries OTC or snap-on they'd probably have it. You don't need it to measure the clearance though, just to swap shims.

I can't find the OTC number. I have the Blue Point one that Snap-on sells:

I did a Yahoo search on "toyota valve lifter tool" and found some for half that price though. I guess there are lots of other places making them now.
