I put the fenders back on my truck (pup) and noticed the fenders block the acess for the door hinges. Is that always the case? Do you guys have to pull your fenders to remove your doors? Is there a way to make quick release hinges using some removeable pin or something?

You can get the doors off without pulling the fenders , but its a little tricky to get a socket in there.You have to open the door to a certain pont , not too far or it won't give you the clearance , and use an extension on the socket.I've done it a couple of times now and it works.Just don't drop the door as your doing it. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> I usualy use one hand to hold the door and get it to the point where only one bolt on each hinge is hanging on , then take those out while supporting the door , and then lower it to the ground.

I think the right amount to open the door is close to 3/4 of the way.Not open far enough or too far and the gap closes.

Replace the hinge pins with multi-hole clevis pins and hitchpin clips; add washers/spacers as needed.

Most people undo the bolts on the door side, and leave the hinge attached to the body. The bolts on the door aren't hard to get to...they really only take a 12mm box end wrench, and if you have a racheting type even better.

I took an extra set of hinges and drilled out the center to 3/8" and am using a 3/8" bolt (about 4" long) with the threads cut off and a tapered end. This way I can swap the half doors and full doors. However, I have noticed the weight of the doors is beginning to sag, so I am on the look out for a good set of 3/8" pins with the holes(like mentioned above)

Any hardware store should carry them. If you just absolutey cannot find them locally, <a href="www.mcmaster.com" target="_blank">McMaster-Carr</a> carries them under Fastening and Sealing -> Pins ->Clevis Pins ->Adjustable Grip. Problem is that you have to buy a pack of 10 for around $9. Maybe convince 4 of your friends to do removable doors at the same time and buy into a pack together. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

How are you guys putting the doors back on without the pulling the fenders? I took the hinges off the doors and put them on the cab. So are you then having someone hold the door up in the air open while you tighten the bolts to the door? It is so easy with no fenders, you can put the door back on and it will stay while you tighten the bolts, easy one person operation...

You can just cut off the part of the fender that is blocking the bolts, like I did. Yeah, before I did that, I had to have a friend hold the door up. We found a log that was a pretty good door height so all he had to do was steady it on that.

You would think any hardware store would have them...but for whatever reason finding the 3/8" size has been really difficult. I have found 1/4 and 1/2" in the lengths I needed, but not the Clevis pins. I may go ahead and get that pack for $9. Figure I need 4 myself.

Also, the nice thing about pins, it is easier to do yourself. I just sit on the door sill and have the door on my thighs while I adjust with 1 hand and slip the pin in with the other.

I am resurrecting this old thread as background to the question:

Wheeling in hot humid weather over the weekend got me highly desirous of a quick way to remove the doors when I get to the trail run location. What is the preferred way to do this, via quick-remove hinge pins or by simply unbolting the doors? Advantages/disadvantages?
