While changing the plugs and wires on my 93 V6, I noticed the drivers side manifold heat shield had fallen off the mounting bolts. It is still in the area of the manifold however it is just laying there. The question I have, is there any way to reattach this or should I just get a new one from the stealership?

The heat shields on my 90 are part of the exhaust manifold gaskets. You are looking at about 60-70 dollars for the gaskets. Yes you do need the shields, if you do not have them you will cook the plug wires in no time.

I believe there are also some shields that attach to the manifolds, mounted with small studs/nuts. Maybe the studs rusted off, or the nuts backed off (doubtful). Those shields are not *required* imho

My driver side one fell off. I found it a couple weeks later at the power line trail. You could reattach them with some bigger washers if the studs/nuts aren't to rusted. I don't think they're that important though.

I'd say use big washers over the existing shield and re-attach it. I just did a head rebuild, and can attest that it's a PITA to reach the nuts/bolts on the shield. If you're rusted out thats and even bigger pita.

IMHO drivers side deffinately need the shield. The heat coming off that bank is quite high and you have plug wires and intake above it.

Yeah the holes where they attach to the manifold seem to have rusted away, I will try the larger washers...thanks
