Getting the Wheeling Fever
I just saw a Trooper on the History Channel. The show is about some very dangerous roads around the world. . . This time theyÆre talking about a road and Bolivia I just wanted you guys to let you know so you can see the trooper in action. By the way the host of the show rented the trooper.

I watched that twice last night.
Its El Camino de la Muerto, or Road of Death.
A little one lane dirt hiway that runs through the Bolivian Andes(?) at 15,000ft and is the main hiway. Lots of head on's with busses and trucks, wich result in rolling offsome 5,oooft cliff.

Looks like a first gen Trooper, White just like mine, Seems to handle it great.
They also show a quick clip about mod'ing. Seems they like to wrap all the ball joint, and tie rods with old inner tubes so if they do break they will hold together long enough to get to repair station. Not a bad trick. Ive seen thing hold together by old grease and muck even though they were broken through.

Heres the Discription form History Channel:

Travel high into the Andes to a road that has more deaths per mile than any other byway in the world. This steep and bumpy road plunges almost 2.5 miles in the four hours it takes to drive it, and those who choose to make the journey will endure an often extremely narrow path that hugs the mountain as it snakes through dramatic, verdant scenery. Twisting between waterfalls and rocky overhangs, the road is unprotected, making near death an almost constant travel companion. A fatal accident every two weeks is not uncommon, and by 1995, the road was commonly referred to as world's most dangerous road. Marsh Mokhtari is our guide, as we explore the people and places along this treacherous path.

I saw it, too. Great show! It was definitely a 1st-gen 4-dr Troop with manual trans and AISIN hubs. Left Hand Drive. Wonder what the rental cost is? Would be fun to tempt fate on the "death highway" for vacation.

You know, I love the internet, you can just let it take you places. So I was readin up in the Death Road and also came across lots of stories of tourists being kidnapped for money. Makes it even more of a dangerous thrill ride."

Some Quotes:

"The bus ride back today was hell, partly because the bus was overcrowded and partly because we broke down barely 15 minutes into the journey. Brake shoes on one of the rear wheels had gone, but somehow the driver managed to fix it, although nobody seemed to be convinced. I was the only gringo on the bus, and couldn't quite understand what was going on, but somehow we made it up through the clouds without further incident."

"We're all packed into the minibus, bags strapped precariously to the roof and we're just waiting on the driver. As the minutes tick by, it starts to become obvious that he's not coming, that he is in fact passed out on the floor of a pub in a pool of his own urine and won't be operating any heavy machinery today. It's eleven in the morning. So we change buses, everyone out, bags off and all pile into another van, rather than the slightly more practical option of having the (allegedly sober) chofer climb aboard our now abandoned machine. It all just adds a little to the carnaval atmosphere, the whole wondering if it'll be your last day on earth, but I'm not worried. Much."

That was a good show and I cant say as I wasnt tempted to do it in a vehicle but would much rather do it on a nice Full Susp Mtn Bike like they showed there than in a vehicle.......just a little more room to manuever around those 10wheelers . Great show though with the troop though.
