I got me a Curt 2.5 2" receiver for $115 delivered. It was a bit of a search for for the 2 Door Sportie. Again 2 holes drilled out. I upgraded the bolts to Grade 8. (didn't notice any frame crush, will have to look now) Wiring was $40-45 and plugged right in to the harness on the driver's side. Unfortunately the web sight I got them from no longer does direct sales.

I thought of getting a hitch, but then I looked under the Kia and saw this nice tube which crosses from one end of tha chasis to the other and welded the receiver to it, now I have a hitch, which by the way, proved to be very strong, for only 10 bucks, cost of the receiver. I've towed cars with it with no problem. I have tube rear bumpers, so getting to the hitch is easy. you might wanna put some support on that, since it isn't heavy wall tube, just in case. i'd run 2 struts from the center, where the receiver is welded, to the frame rails about where the next x-member is located above the gas tank. I'm thinking of trying this avenue of approach. My friend did what Maraquez did and it seems to work ok. I just need to tow a small boat on a trailer. NoT Towing a car or anything!!!! Would I still need to make the suggested mods???? The U-Haul Hitch I have seen many times over and they were on quite a few old school Chevy Blazers. The hitches for many vehicles can be quite expensive ( my lady's Jeep Commander $600.00) Ya , there nuts!

Toung weight is 10% of the trailer weight. So for a 4000 lbs hitch up to 400 lbs would be put on the toung.

Given that there is no way of measuring the extra forces that are added if you weld directly to the crossmember, or even the strength and metallurgical quality of the steel used in the crossmember, I would just pay the money and buy a stock, bolt on tow bar. Not worth the risk and legal liability if it goes wrong at 65 mph. Cheap insurance.
Remember it is not simply the 400 lb tow ball weight that is the issue, but the vibration, torsional forces, and lateral forces involved.
Have a good look at the wall thickness of tube they use in the bolt on commercial tow bars, and then have a look at the wall thickness of the crossmember. Now add to the torsional forces acting on that crossmember due to the 6" drop in it caused by several hundred pound being vibrated fore and aft. Now realise that this crossmember keeps the ass end of your truck together......get the drift?????

Logansportage But you have up to 4000 lb pushing/pulling/vibrating every time you speed up/slow down/hit a bump/change directions. Not good...

I decided to solve this problem in short. I can mount a Ball hitch to the bumper (new bumper of course). Like "old school"....Very,very,Very cheap!!! with all of the bright minds out there I am surprised that nobody thought of this. Will prolly go this route
