When I bought my 4Runner it had 99,963 miles on it so I got to hit 100K on the way home from the dealership.

Why are some of you guys worrying about putting milage on? These things run forever! I have 87,000 HARD miles on my supercharged 98, and it still runs pretty well. Needs the level 10 tranny treatment because it's starting to slip... but I think it's not worth the cost, and gas is outrageous... so I'll prolly be trading in my beloved 4Runner for a Subaru WRX this summer when the 2004's come out (sunroof, heated seats and no bug-eyes in '04 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" /> )

Mine ('98) is now over 142,000 miles since bought it brand new (at 20 miles), still running like a champ. So far, I had one minor repair with burnout magneto on starter at around 122,000 miles. Everything is still orginal except suspension components, even the brake pads have not replaced, yet. It is about 35% remained. I keep wondering what make it so special.

I used had my good ol' 1st gen. 1989 4Runner SR5 with V6 engine, auto tranny and lifted for 33" tires, it already gone over 265,000 miles. It had two repairs, first one was the noisy water pump at 88K miles, second repair was to replace the timing belt pulley due to loose bearing at 175K. I never had a problem with V6 engine's headgasket like I have heard many times. I sold it before I bought a new 1998's.

Both vehicles had been on the 4wheeling at least 20 percent on the mileage. I consider 'em the most reliable 4x4 machine. No question about that.

I have 91,567 on my '97, and my buddy has about the same on his '97 C/K Chevy pickup. His is almost dead. My 4Runner is, well, still perfect. Will this thing ever die?
