I'm fixing to buy a pretty nice 85 4runner for cheap.. The engine(22re) is freshly rebuilt, new clutch, whole brake system, seats, carpet, fairly new tires, exhaust including cat. Absolutely no frame rust but, there is minor rust on the body. How much do you guys think this is worth????

The only thing I can see it needs is a console. Where could I find one of these??

Anywhere from $1500 to $3500, there are too many variables for a closer, realistic estimate.

For parts start with the For Sale and Wanted forms on this and other BBS's.

If it doesn't have rear heat, throw an 01-04 Tacoma center console in it to gain storage and cup holders. Sundowner did that in his 4Runner and it's uber nice.

Is that the stock shifter surround? So the newer console bolts right up to the older one? Hmmmmmm.... Very cool.

Hmm, no doubt I really like that. Although for a 4runner the rear window controls would need to be relocated for this as well. Does this bolt in too or does a fastening scheme need to be devised?

Unfortunately no. That is a Taco gear surround. The diff colors are because Toyota changed the formulation of their gray at some point to one with a lot more blue in it, so I hit it with some vinyl paint. It's still off, but not as much as the blue was.

I just moved the switches from the console to the dash on my '85, they fit into unused holes beside the steering wheel and over the radio slot in the center console. All that was needed was to extend the wiring to the switches.

when I did it, I used an 01 tacoma console and I bought the shifter bezel (comes with the boot) from the dealer, I think it was like $30 for the set. the shifter bezel and front two screws for the console line right up with the factory tabs welded to the floor pan for the 84-88 console. I had to drill two new holes for the screws in the back of the new console under the arm rest. pretty easy. I also went the extra mile and got tacoma shift knobs for the tranny and t-case. the manual hub knobs screw right on and even have the same shift pattern.

the rear window and wiper switches were relocated to the dash where the factory quartz clock was. I always hated that stupid clock. I'm too anal to tolerate when the clock in the aftermarket stereo isn't the exact same time as the dash clock, anyway. the wiring can be a bear. there's about 12 wires going to those two switches, and some of them are the same color, so number them before you cut them!!
