Need a Spot
I have a 1985 4runner auto. The auto temp. light, alt. light and brake lights are staying lit up when engine is idling. When I take off on the road they go off. When I come to a stop sign they come back on. I pulled the alt. off and had it checked at a reputable shop and it is charging! I had the battery tested and it shows good. I even put in a different battery and it still does the same thing. I took my volt meter and tested the voltage at the battery with the truck running and it only shows 12.25volts idling and it does not increase if you rev the engine up!! I even tested the alt. voltage at the alt off the little stud on top and it shows 12.29 volts. Any and all help will be appreciated!!!!!> I have not gone through any water with it the truck was doing fine when I parked it 2 days ago and When i went to use it this started. ALSO, I pulled the positive cable off of the battery and the engine dies!!! Also these voltage tests were done with all electrical accessories turned off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Getting the Wheeling Fever
If your connection to the battery and ground are good, I'd bet money it's still the alternator. Bad alternators often test good on a bench because they aren't under any load.

I took a chance against the advice from the alternator repair shop that said my alt. was good. I went to the local O'reillys and bought a reman. and I am getting the correct voltage at the battery and the warning lights are staying off!!!!!!!!!!!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

YOu should have just replaced the brushes

Just keep your receipt on the reman unit, I've heard a lot of horror stories on how the reman units fail quickly.
