Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey Folks
Does anybody have the torque values for the intake manifold on a 90 Montero 3L. I put a new intake gasket on because the old one was leaking, but I can't get the new one to seal. Thanks for the help.

Where are you in SW Alaska? I lived in Eagle River for 5 years.

Not from here, just living here for now. Chapel Hill, that northern liberal enclave surrounded by Southern Reconstructionists. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

After seeing those values; I may have over torqued the intake. The new gasket helped the leak, but didn't stop it. Maybe I cracked the new gasket and will have the job to do again.

Clean the flanges well with acetone or laquer thinner. Spray 2 coats of Copper Spray-a-Gasket on the flange faces and both sides of the MLS gaskets. Reinstall and torque to spec.

Have the heads or block been milled? That would make the manifold sit higher in relationship to the heads, and may bind the manifold on the studs which are on the bias. If you mill either, you should mill the manifold flanges by the same amount divided by the SQRT(2), or 1.414 for a 90* motor, and by 2 for a 60* vee motor.

Upon reassembly, progressively tighten the stud nuts in a circular pattern, much like you would head bolts.

That'll apply the pressure evenly.
