Getting the Wheeling Fever
I bought this '99 Trooper about 4 months ago, and I have yet to figure out what this thing under the dash is. That red LED blinks 24/7, whether the truck is running or not. I'm kind of afraid to mess with it, because I was thinking it might be some kind of anti theft system or something. It seems to be aftermarket. It has a cable that looks like a flat computer ribbon cable coming from it, going up into the dash somewhere. any help would be appreciated.

Ya, I'd say it's probably aftermarket anti-theft. Might also be one of those fake alarm lights ... the ones where it blinks to make you think there's an alarm, but there really isn't.

Ummm, I've looked as hard as I could without tearing the dash apart, that's why I thought I would ask here. Thanks for the replies guys, If it's "big brother", they're gonna be bored to death watching me go to work and back <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

See if you can get your Trooper up to 88 mph... it might be the fabled "Flux Capacitor".[Linked Image]

Is that a phono plug jack above the LED?

Try stealing your own truck ... then watch for the black helicopters following you.

THAT IS DEFINATELY AN AFTERMARKET AFTER THOUGHT , EVER SEE A JAPANEZE PART WITH THAT MUCH OF AN ADJUSTMENT SLOT IN IT , I WOULD DEFINATELY FIND OUT WHERE IT GOES AND WHAT IT DOES, BEFORE IT LEAVES YOU STRANDED SOMEWHERE BECAUSE IT DID SOMETHING STUPID, MOST LIKELY AN ALARM, TUCKED BACK UP UNDER THE DASH SOMEPLACE ,YOU DON,T WANT IT TO DISABLE THE STARTER AT SOME INOPERTUNE TIME .JERRY
