I can't remember if they were actually further out than the sidewall, but they stuck out further than I liked. That doesn't mean you can't run them. As 4Crawler said, they list that size as being OK, and I don't think they would if it was a problem. It's probably the same thing as running 12.5" tires on 10" rims, which used to be pretty common.

The narrower rims look better, IMO, and are better for airing down, since they help keep the tire on the rim at lower pressures, but that's probably going to be your only disadvantages.

You could always just have them mount one and see what you think.
