Is it ok to mount 33"x9.5" tire on 15x8" rim? Good/bad? Why?

BFG lists 6.5"-8.5" wheel width for mounting so should work good for on-road use. For off-road use, it may not air down as well and the tire will not offer as much wheel/bead protection as it would on a narrower rim. I run mine on 6" rims and they work well, a 10.50 works even better on 6" though:

I had a 33x9.5 on an 8" rim as a spare. It worked, but the wheel stuck out more than I cared for. I think airing down would very difficult and risky and with such a narrow tire, you're probably more likely to air down than most.

If you have a choice I wouldn't go any wider than 7", but I assume you're trying to same money by stick with what you got.

If you wanna save cash, you could probably fit them on stock Toyota rims, which could probably be had pretty cheap. By doing that, you also could more easily run that tire with a low lift, which it sounds like you got, and not worry about rubbing. Paint the stock wheels black or grey and I don't think anyone would notice the difference. It would kind of have that cool overseas Australia truck look with the narrow tires. Kind of like this only taller tires>

Do u mean the wheel (15x8 rim) sticks out more then the tire sidewall? If so, i guess I won't go that way.

I do have my stock rim 15x7x4.75bs. But using those rims with 235/75r15, the inner tire rubs against the UCA lip with 1.5" bjs installed at full droop. I had to use .25" wheel spacer. I don't want to mount 33x9.5 on my stock rim and then realize i need to use wheel spacer.

Ideally, I like to keep using my 15x8x3.75"bs rim to maintain my rubbing distance & a wider stance...especially with pizza cutters...

i ran 33x9.5's on a 8" rim for a while. worked just fine.

the rim is a little wide for the tire, but it looked fine, and i never had a problem with them.

I can't remember if they were actually further out than the sidewall, but they stuck out further than I liked. That doesn't mean you can't run them. As 4Crawler said, they list that size as being OK, and I don't think they would if it was a problem. It's probably the same thing as running 12.5" tires on 10" rims, which used to be pretty common.

The narrower rims look better, IMO, and are better for airing down, since they help keep the tire on the rim at lower pressures, but that's probably going to be your only disadvantages.

You could always just have them mount one and see what you think.

Not sure what the stock BS is on stock IFS 15"x6" wheels are but I imagine it would be less.

As well stock SA wheels have less BS than the stock IFS wheels if you want another cheap (IE free) option.

That's what I have now, and it is a problem when airing down. My tires slip on my rims if I air down below about 15 psi. I haven't lost a bead yet but it throws my balance off every time I air down. Last time I was wheeling I marked my valve stems with a marker and all 4 tires slipped. This was at the start of a trip;

By the end of a week some of the tires had slipped 6-8 inches on the rims.

Help me decide on getting 33x10.5 or 33x9.5

Bascially, i have 4.88 and it?s going on 15x8.

I need tires that gives me

-good handling at high speed in canadian winter hwy. You know, slush+snow+black ice...etc

-something to use all year long <summer, hwy, dirt road

-long thread wear life / decent gas mileage

-enough load range with a drop-in camper



suggestions of other tires than bfg at are welcomed...
