Getting the Wheeling Fever
Rolling Dunlop Mud Terrains right now in a 255/85-16 (33x10) I like them but after just 3 trips, Uhwarrie twice and Callalantee and <1000 street miles I'm seeing some slightly disturbing cuts/tears in the tread. I don't know if this is normal for wheeling only tires but I don't remember seeing it on Trailmystic's Trxus MT's, and they are his DD as well IIRC

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Currently I'm on a set of Michelin XC LT4 in 255/70R16 on my 95.5 Rodeo. I bought them before doing any suspension lift and my wife was the primary driver of the vehicle, with the occasional job towing my boat or tent trailer on trips. Unfortunately I can't wear them out fast enough! About 25K miles on them and they still have over 3/4 tread left on them. They have only so so traction in the desert where I live (mix of sand, rocks, dirt and silt), however they have good road characteristics in wet or dry, quiet and wear like iron, and they have surprisingly good snow traction. When I bought them it was after I put my 'realist' hat on and acknowleged the reality that my wife wore out a great set of AT's on the highway with little offroad travel ( less than 5% of the time)

My previous tires were BFG All Terrain T/A KOs in 255/70R16, and I absolutely loved those tires. They had perfect traction for the desert, and most of the time everywhere else I went on my unlifted rodeo (which was over a surprisingly lot of terrain on hunting trips...when you don't care about scraping the skid plates, though my muffler has a couple of really good dents in it). As long as the mud isn't too deep, they were OK in mud, just be aware they only have about 80% of the traction that mud terrain tires give you in mud. They were also surprisingly good in snow and slush.

Now that my wife is driving my Mercedes, and I now have an Audi with Quatro for winter driving / commuting, I'm making my Rodeo more off road worthy. Just as soon as I wear out my Michelin tires I'm going back to a set of the BFG's in a 265/75R16, and probably go from a 1.5 inch lift (shackles and torsion crank, BJ flip and lowpro bumpstops) to a 3 inch lift (add-a-leafs, new shocks, more torsion crank, one-piece driveline..BJ Spacers? Leaf shims? Extended brake lines?)

Bottom line is that the BFG AT is a great tire. I had an older set on an old CJ5 many years ago, and a set of BFG MTs, and they really are the best off-road tires I've run.

I've got a set of General Grabber AT2s on my 1998 Rodeo. I;ve not had 'em in snow yet, but the reviews were fantastic and the price was right. I did get to do some very mild off-roading this summer and they performed very well.

I've also had good luck in the past with Discount's own tire, the Dominator. It was quiet, performed well in all conditions, and wore like iron. The best part was that I only paid about $70 per in a 31" size. When I bought 'em, I got 'em all (5!) installed and guaranteed for under $400.

I've had the firestone destination mt's, 265/75/16 for about 3 years now, and I've still got great things to say about them. The best part about them is they are a soft compound tire, but still have good wear characteristics. For a mud tire they grip well in the wet, snow and ice. They own any deep stuff. If you search my post history, I have written a few posts before with more info if you are interested. I got mine for about 140 apeice at a local shop.

The biggest reason for getting the X/T's was the WARRANTY. LifeTime, I screw it up I get another Free. so no matter what I do to them Ill get another, Now that I think about it I may never have to but another set, Ill abuse the one that needs replacing soon and hopefully it'll go out and be unrepairable HAHAHA!!

Since I'm cheap I run Dayton Timberline AT's. They cost half as much as BFG's and in my opinion do almost as well. I've been surprised at how well they've done on the stuff I've gone on. Not great in mud but I dont do mud anymore. They do really good in snow and rain.

I am currently running a set of 31x10.5x15 BFG AT's for on-road travel and a set of Les Schwab cheapy 33x12.5x15 siped that I use for offroad.

My favorite tire of all time is still the Yokohama Geolander MT+. Handled really well in Moab, handles really well at Land between the Lakes ORV park in Kentucky. As soon as I wear out the 33's I am getting another set of Yokohama's. They aren't nearly as expensive as say the Firestone and the BFG's.
