There is a set of axles advertiesd locally from a J-20. I'm waiting to hear back from the seller, but I thought it might be a good candidate for a future SAS. According to my research, it should be a 3/4 ton, with a D44 front, D60 rear. I don't know the year, but it looks like if the front is Passenger drop, then the rear will be a SF D60 with about a 6" offset to the passenger side. I've seen comments that if you're not swapping it into a jeep with a short rear drive shaft, then the offset rear is workable.

If the price is right, I might consider these, but I just wanted to get some opinions of the offset rear in my Passport. I've got a pretty long rear shaft with my shorter drivetrain.

IMO, don't bother. you don't want to deal with a quadratec axle if you don't have to. I don't see you running the offset diff in your Isuzu as is, especially if you plan on keeping highway driving. its significantly offset, without a tcase swap/relocation, this will cause driveline geometry issues big time. yes, you can retube them to center the diff, but again, a lot more work than you want when rear axle choices are so plentiful.

and btw, some J20's come with D60 FF (not SF) too. Though, I've heard this is a light duty version and the tube thickness isn't what you'd find compared to the same axle out of a big van/truck.

As far as I can tell, they switched to the FF D60 after '75, when they also switched to a drivers side drop.

If the guy is willing, I might just take the front axle, which I understand is pretty standard D44 stuff.

yea, the front axle is good. the heavier J-trucks even came with 8-lug D44's and some had flat top knuckles. The width is around 65" iirc, so its a little wider than your typically waggy D44 that is more common.

I went down this road a little while back, when a friend was parting out an old J-20...

Rob got me to see the light about how much of a PITA it would be to try to use that offset D-60

Anyway, I got a passenger-side-drop, full-width, 3/4 ton, 8 lug Dana 44 out of the deal - although, IIRC, I'm pretty sure that it measures 67".

It's all beside the point in this case. I talked to the guy today, and it's a centered diff, D60FF, BUT, the front is drivers drop <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
