OK JIM THIS IS WHAT I FOUND OUT TODAY CALLED THE COMPANY THAT BUILT THE MOTOR, THEY ARE SAYING THE RINGS HAVE NOT YET SEATED IN THE 5 CYL'S..WHICH I THINK IS B/S..BUT WHAT DO I KNOW....HAD A LEAK-DOWN TEST DONE AND IT SHOWED I WAS LEAKING AIR PAST THE PISTONS. SO WHO KNOWS...TOLD HIM I WOULD TRY AND LET IT RUN ANOTHER 100 MILE'S AND IF IT HASENT SEATED BY THEN, I WANT A NEW ENGINE, THEY SAID THEY WOULD MAKE IT GOOD, IF I WANT TO GO THAT ROUTE.

Jesus! They must have used chrome rings! And oval cyls. Man I have never seen a fresh engine that had leakby in the new cyls and rings. I think I would fill the tank with gasoline and park her in the driveway and adjust the fast idle screw to about 2600.. then I would watch some good football with my friends while It broke itself in. Coach I thought you had a NEW engine.. NEW engines come with better rings and cyls than that. It is not unknown for the NEW engine to have missing or upside down rings in them.. Good luck and keep us posted. Big JIm

most engines take around 500 miles to "break in" give it until then. every new car manuel says in it that some oil burning is common until it properly seals. just give it some time. bj has a good idea set the fast idle and let it run and go watch a game,or do whatever. by the time it is over it should be set.if not call your local chrysler dealer and see if they can get you a new one. if they can go to where you got the engine from and tell them you want your money back the get your engine from chrysler.
out of all the jeeps in this town the d**n gremlin had to invade mine
I've done so much, with so little for so long i can practicly do anything with nothing

Yeah Cuervo... but the damn things are at least supposed to IDLE! We build engines and send the straight to the track! They have a total of ONE MINUTE to break in! Naaah, there is a real problem here. He can run that thing all day long and I'll betcha it still has the same problems. His only out is to go ahead and run her for hours and hours and then check the compression again. Big JIm
