Need a Spot
I have a 80 pickup with an 81 22R motor.....the carb is totally done....needs a rebuild however I have never found
anyone who is any good at doing this and the end result is not optimal....I was thinking of trying to put a fuel injected system on it from a later model (mabe I should look for a motor already equipped) the questions are then:
How hard is this, and what do i need ....what should I look out for etc...etc

anyone??

Body Damage is Cool
Well, I know it will be easier to rebuild the carb yourself than to do the efi swap.

Whats wrong with your carb?

It will need a complete re-build....

when running engine smokes as well I'm thinking mabe the mtr is not much good??
anyway i have very limited carb skills (none)they just don't seem to like me....i tried to set up a rodchester (SP) once and the result was not pretty....

If you struggle with a carb I would not recomend an EFI swap unless you are getting the whole motor. Matter of fact, you pretty much need everything but the block anyhow...

Where are you located?
Any qualified machine shop should be able to disassemble and reassemble your motor using Ted's parts. You'll have to do your due dilligence on the reputation of that shop.

If your stock carb is really jacked up, consider the weber 32/36 - it's a great replacement.

The EFI swap is not trivial... If you're really interested, I'll find a link - but it's not an easy swap in terms of wiring.

its not that I'm stuck on putting efi on the truck....just was thinking if I go the route on swapping the mtr out mabe going for a late model with the efi would work better....

based on this I would get a newer mtr complete and drop the whole she-bang in....just was wondering what other considerations there were....ie are there speed sensors to the drivetrain/wheels? can I drill out my header for the o2 sensor?? these and other considerations are more the question....

sorry I wasn't that clear in the orignal post

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Try giving Shayne a call form Toy Works. He is located just outside or Orangeville and has done the swap a couple of times.
He can do the swap, or send you in the right direction.
Tell him Justin sent ya

The whole she-bang will drop in, but wiring the whole-she bang is going to be an issue.... You can buy a "barebones" haress for around $450 off pirate - otherwise you'll need to understand wiring diagrams very well. Fuel pump, fuel pump relays, o2 sensor, multiple VSVs.. Lots of issues.
It'll be a bit timing consuming if you understand it. If you don't understand it, it'll be very expensive unless you can find someone who has done this sort of swap before and is willing to stand by their work.
