I've got a leak that I think is coming from behind my crank pulley. It slings some oil onto my alternator and also onto my lower radiator hose, and generally all over the front of the engine. Really only seems to generate oil when engine is running because after I drive for even a little it will spray enough oil to make a drip or two onto my garage floor. Not major, just enough to make a small drip. Is this a common leak point?

That's a front main seal. Getting the pully off is what makes it hard. Dat's a tight bolt....

Yes it's a common leak point. As is the rear seal. This one is easier.

Thats your front main seal.. it slings oil everywhere becuase it leaks onto the fan. Pretty straight forward/easy to replace. Gotta take the oil pump off. Gives you a step by step in the fsm sticky'd at the top of the forum.

Awesome fellas, I will change that puppy this weekend and see if I can cure some of my oil consumption issues. I don't have an exact figure, but I definitely use 2 quarts per 3000 miles, I have to add oil regularly. I don't know how much I burn though versus how much leaks out, but I never see any white smoke out my exhaust and I'm at 198k miles.

You won't really see smoke unless you are burning bad. I burn about a half a quart every 3k. Most of what you are losing is from the seal.
