1997 Sportage 4x4 ....occasional stalling #760491 10/25/06 03:29 PM

Hello,
My wife has a 1997 sportage with a DOHC engine. The car is fun but is mired with occasional problems, It drives very well most of the time, but stalls at a stop from time to time for no apparent reason. It then become difficult to start...but eventual does...then drives fine for a while. We have changed just about all the sensors at this point. It will drive fine for me, but its stalls for her ...althought I have observed it myself. There is no check engine light on. I have a feeling the problem is an intermittent one which makes it hard to find. It drives extremely well 90% of the time. Any ideas anyone? I am at a loss here!

Hmmmmm....the mystery stalling gremlin. Exact same thing happened to our car. Only did it when the missus drove. couldn't figure it out and hasn't done it for a long time now either. I did switch to a high octane ethanol blend of fuel for fun and it runs really well too, maybe it was caused by dirty fuel? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

KIA, More dirt for ya dollar! 99 Sportage, Pod filter, Bosch Super4 plugs, electric thermo fan, racing pedals, Narva 100W driving lights, Yokhama 235/75R15 Super Diggers....getting to the rest bit by bit.

Body Damage is Cool
Being a '97, when was the last time the fuel filter was changed? How about the air filter?

I'd recommend replacing both of these because you could have crud in the fuel filter that keeps clogging the line.

Need a Spot
When it stalls what is it doing prior to stalling? Like, is it missing then stalls or does it just shut off. Does it idle real high then low then high then stall?
