hey everyone, Im new to this board but have a few questions.. I just recently swapped over a 4ZE1 from my old 1990 pup to my 1989 trooper cuz the engine has seized in the trooper....everything is now in but I cant make it start... I checked the usual, wires,fuses,etc.. I checked each of the spark plugs and each is firing just fine... so I checked my gas line, and sure enough Im getting plnety of gas up from the pump...I checked the injectors by pulling them out of the engine and setting them inside my fuel rail with the connectors on and fuel going to my rail and they all seemed to be working fine which brings me to my first question...each injector squirts at the same time, is that normal,? and also are they all supposed to shoot fuel at the same time? I put them all back in to the troop and tried again with no luck...Ive tried timing the distributor but still no luck...maybe my timing is off, I dont really know exactly how to do it. ther only time I get it to start is when I spray some starting fluid into the intake but it only starts for a few seconds then dies...if anyone has any answers please let me know!! thanks!!

There was just a thread about this maybe a week ago. Yes itÆs supposed to squirt all at once. ItÆs a batch fire injector setup. Do some searching or read through the first 2 or 3 pages of threads here, IÆm sure you can find it.

How did you deal with the extra 16 pin harness connector coming from the pup 2.6?Pup/Amigo 2.6 have a blue 16 pin and a black/grey 16 pin. The trooper only has a 16 pin black/grey connector.
Since these both come from the engine/intake area that may be a problem.
WHere did you plug it in at?

by the way bansil, I was looking over another thread where u said something about a black connector and a grey connector. the black one goes to my coil and the other is a grey one that u said goes to my cali. egr... Im not sure what that is but I do have a grey 2 pin connector that I cant find a place to hook up anywhere and it wasnt hooked up on the pup either... looks like it was never hooked up on either vehicle with how much dirt was all over it..thanks

Don't worry about the grey 2 wire one,it doesn't get hooked up.Forgot exactly but I believe it's a test connetion, forgot what jerry told me but it' not used.
The black/grey connector is a 16 wire connector and the blue one is also. They plug into the harness on the passenger fender one the pup/amigo.......I noticed this when I went to hook up my 2.6 in the Amigo. The donor trooper did not have the blue 16 pin.
But since you swapped out harnesses it's all good.

That gray one is for engines with the California Emissions package. On those vehicles the ECM is different too. But yeah, just leave it hang.
Dozier... You had the distributor removed, correct ? So, it's possible that you didn't get it inserted correctly, search back about a year or so for the thread that has pics that show the marks for lining up the dist... There's a mark on the inside of the head, under the valve cover.... but, if you don't wanna take the cover off, you will need to find TDC and make sure the dist is pointing to the correct plug. There's info about this too...

well I started tinkering around with the trooper again last night since I finally had some free time... I was able to get the air intake put back on and started putting the hoses back in place. I tried starting it again and it will try to start but then once I let off of the key it will just die.. some times though when I would turn the distributor to different angles it will stay running for a few seconds. when im able to keep it running for those few seconds I keep my foot on the gas and that helps keep it going for a few seconds longer but as soon as I take my foot off the gas it dies. could this be because I may not have the vacuum lines hooked up right? or could this still be a timing issue?

It is acting like the dizzy is 180* out. Take Troopersphere's advice and check the timing marks. ALL the timing marks.
Start with the basics. Check the alignment of the dizzy, the timing of the marks on the cam pulley, plug wire order ect.
Good Luck, Michael

Just want to make sure you're not over thinking this too much ...
Do you have all the belts on? In particular the alternator belt. The reason I ask is because if the alternator isn't charging, then the engine will only run for a few seconds then die. What it is, is that the fuel pump runs off of the battery during cranking. Then once the engine starts, a diode inside the alternator energizes a relay and the fuel pump runs off the alternator once the engine is running. So, if you don't either have the alternator belt on, or the alternator is defective, then it'll never kick the fuel pump over to alternator power and die because you've run out of fuel. If you do have the alternator on, you might want to check the electrical connections for it, and/or get it bench tested at the auto parts store.
Just a suggestion.
