Getting the Wheeling Fever
I bought my wife a black 2006 wrangler, back in April.

A few weeks back prior to taking it back to the dealer for service, we noticed a bare spot on the hood about 1.5" in diameter. I mean bear metal showing!

We had the service manger take a look at it to see if there is a warranty problem with the paint finish. He took some digital pictures and emailed them to the factory rep to look at.

The factory rep stated that it was bird crap that caused it and is not covered under warranty. How in the world is a factor rep able to make this determination without ever seeing or touching the vehicle? Also, we never said it was bird crap on the vehicle, he did.

Now, I've had lots of vehicles in my time and all have had bird crap on them at some time or another. Never, have I had the crap eat the paint off right down to bare metal. Especially in such a short amount of time. The vehicle is always being wased so if bird crap got on it, it wouldn't have been for long.

Does this sound like a bad paint finish or a bird with a high acid content?

nope never did have bird crap eat paint off like that. but threeatin them with a law suitthat may get them hopping or get them to at least come look at it in person. they just want their money and refuse to let go of it.you need to show them who keeps them in buisness.

Hey Guys! Slow down here... What you are missing is the thing called "IMPLIED WARRANTY" It is assumed that when a gizmo is sold that it will perform the same as all other gizmos of the same type!
If pressed you will easily get the hood repainted courtesy of MOPAR!
Do NOT let it rest get in their hair over this and complain over the phone! Tell em your paint is coming off and your lawyer said he is ready to start a lemon law suit! You will get prompt action. This is a piece of cake!

The larger issue at hand which is not been addressed is the fact that a 2006 unit has the base coat, paint and clear coat missing. The quality of the finish has been compromisd down to bare metal. That is a given. The fact that the vendor has with held, or denied or out right stretched the tale, is the most important thing at hand. The vendor has now shown that they can not be trusted and have not earned the clients trust.

Threats and legal ovatures only go so far.

My personal opinion. I would expect the entire vehicle to be analiezed, tested for proper application and adhesion of the base coat, paint and clear coat. Also, in no way would it be acceptabled to just paint the hood, it will take the entire vehicle being repainted by a highly qualified 3rd party who is top shelf.

Have already had my share of meetings with the vendor who sold a 2006 Jeep TJ just this summer to me and from the experience I've had so far the vendor I've purchased from is highly unprofessional and worse likes to elaborate and stretch the validity of things just a bit to much.

Oh well! Have already looked up another vendor in a near by town and am hoping to have better luck with them.

The Jeep itself seems pretty good so far. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

i forgot to mention i went through the same crap with chrysler with my wifes neon. What i did was went online to see if anybody else had the same problem. boy did they and there was a class action lawsuit against chrysler for it. so i printed everything i could find handed it to my wife and in turn she gave them to her dad. he is a salesman so he knew exactly how to deal with them. he went through all the steps that the web sitees reccomended before taking civil action. meanwhile i have a regular customer that is a lawyer i told him what was going on and he contacted my father-in-law. well after that the lawyer contacted the dealer and told them he was prepared to take it to court needless to say that is all it took.eventhough the paint wwas only coming off the roof at the time we got the whole car painted at chryslers expense.

try to find as many people as you can with the same or simular problems with the paint and get them in on it,the last thing chrysler wants is another class action lawsuit.
