Did you ever get your prints made? or did anyone have any manufactured? I am looking to replace mine with 3/16" alum. Does that sound ok for basic 4x4 wheeling, but no heavyduty 4x4ing? Everet

The front plate is complete, but requires fitup, and I've been on vacation all week. the rear is requiring major development to meet my requirements (I'm a toolmaker for pete's sake...) Keep in mind that Aluminum will have to be 3x as thick as the original plate to match the strength, and it will then weigh more. I don't think it's a bad way to go as long as you know what you want (weight vs. looks vs. protection).

I kinda think the aluminum might be better...seeing how these puppies love the rust! And, of course it will show those cool "battle scars" better!

Any word on the skid plates? My tank might have rusted through over the weekend.
Went out and had a rather large puddle of gas under the Sportage. Looked at the skid plate and it was really wet. There were a number of drips hanging from the passenger side front corner. Since it was rather cold I couldn't tell how much fuel was or had really been leaking.
Going to pull the skid plate over the holiday and see if there is a crack or a rusted through section.
Might be looking at a new tank

i'm replacing my tank this weekend. it's been leaking for quite a while now and found that the factory tank may have a design flaw in it that cracks it in a very odd place on the bottom of the tank. i payed 250 bucks for a new tank, if the gas tank skid is still in the works, i'd be interested in getting one. PM me when you get a chance and let me know something. PS guys, i'm back. so be ready for more stupid questions and misquotes.

Turtleskia,
My tank just did the same thing. Where did you get your tank and how long was the crack?
Was it small enough that you could use something like JB Weld to seal the crack?
Mine dripps more or less depending on the amount of fuel in the tank and the outside temperature.
Do you have any pictures of your old tank showing the tank and where it is?
Thanks a lot.
