Hey all, I just passed by a short wheel base 2-door Gen I Trooper, white, 213K miles, stick, 4 wheel disc brakes, grey interior, gold shiny tinted windows. I think it's a 1990/91 model. I snapped some photos but left the camera at work. Just curious about some of the mechanicals and such:

1. Engine - 4 or 6 cylinder typical?
2. Rear axle limited slip? Gear ratio(s)?
3. Value of apparent rarity? I've only seen one other.

If it's got square headlights, then it's an 89 RS Trooper. That's the only year for the 1st Gen RS. Sounds like that's what you're talking about. It'll have the 2.6L 4 cyl. Axle ratios will be 4.77s. I'm not sure of the limited slip. I believe I read that most (all?) had limited slip. Value? Depends on who you're asking, but around here it might as well be priceless.

I think if it has 4 disc brakes it should be a V6.

No, all 89 RS's came with the 2.6l 4cyl. Regardless of having disk brakes or not. 12 bolt rear 10bolt front IFS.

Just to clarify, the v-6 did not determine whether disc brakes were used or not in the rear.

In 1988, Isuzu began using a 12-bolt rear end as opposed to the previous years 10-bolt. This rear end came with disc brakes, and is a very good rear axle. They did come with a LSD as well...

The 1989 Trooper RS was a one year only deal here in the US. It is a 2-door SWB version of the Trooper. 10 bolt front, 12 bolt rear, 4.77 gearing. 2.6l 4cylinder, as the v-6 wasn't available until 1990, I believe(this part I am not sure on).

1993, another RS run was made for the US. This time, newer Trooper design, v-6, coil suspension, etc....

I had a 1str gen and loved it, although I am back to a LWB 4-dr.

HOpe this helps.....

You could get the 2.8 in the regular WB Trooper in '89, wonder why they didn't off the RS with that option ?

Body Damage is Cool
theres been one at a local mechanics shop for over a year now. The guy that owns it has had multiple heart attacks, and as bad as it sounds, ive been waiting for him to actually want to sell it (or die i know!) so that i can get it for cheap. This reminds me that its been about 5 months since i have checked on it, and the mechanic put it behind his shop, so maybe he took a lein on it.....

Im gonna check tomorrow.
