Getting the Wheeling Fever
i was at the yard today browsing the sas vehicles and found plenty on wagoneers cherokees and a few others. from others experiances which is best for a gen 1 swap. 50 bucks for fronts and 75 for the rear is too cheap to ignor <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
thanks again Tim

You can also use the high pinion Dana 44 out of a late 70's Ford F-150.

cool although no 4wd older fords. i keep thinking i should just build my own chassis and drop the body on it.

Find a driver drop D60 and a rear 14Bolt. 1Ton stuff rocks. Also, I think the np231 bolts up to the gen1, you can get 4:1 and SYE. That would be a bad montero. I think I am going to do that one day to my Gen1.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Sorry, the NP 231 is a Tcase. You can search for it on here, i think it bolts directly up to the gen1 tranny. They came in a few vehicles, a lot of jeeps. The 4:1 for the t-case gears. SYE is slip yoke eliminator. I would only go 1 tons if you were doing some harecore rock crawling. 1tons are heavy and wide. But a montero on 1tons and 39in or 42in Iroks would be freekin awesome.

You could get a rear from a later model SR with 4.636 gears. It will bolt to your truck. Factory air locker, 1.4in shafts, 31 spline. And put a d44 front with 4.56gears and a locker, you should be good.

Roll Me Over
Perhaps it would be a good idea to mention that the Wagoneer axle would be a narrow track axle that would be a better match for the width of the vehicle.

But I guess if tire sticking way out on each side of your vehicle strikes you as cool, then go for the others.

good point. considering its a road rider 90%. i really dont see how this is that expensive of a job to do. im estimating 1k will be the high side of the build. my brother in law and i will probably have it done in a couple weekends one i decide which setup to go with. there also is a decent chance ill just build a smallblock powered rolling chassis and drop the mony on it! that would be the better thing to do if i feel like calling a buddy who trained me when i worked at A.R.T. (applied racing technologies).
