My '85 uses an 89661-35020 ECU and I tried an 89661-35070 and the engine fired up and ran with no error codes:

Well i dont know the part number but i helped my budy peiece together the engine management on his 85 22-re. we used injectors out of an 92 and took the wire harness and ecu out of a 94 we found in a junk yard (totaly got a steal at 45 bucks for all of that and a few more various parts). once we got every thing figured out on that thing it ran like a rape-dape. all we did was 2.25 exhaust pipe and a flow master with stock manifold, and that thing would turn 38.5 sx like a set of 33's with all factory gears.

so it should work as we mixed parts from 85 clear through 94.

Don't mix and match FI components of significantly differing years.. Some injectors were low impedance, some were high impedance.

"generally" speaking, if the ECUs will plug-in, they're close.. The best way to tell is to get a pin out from the FSM.... It tells you the functions of the pins on the ECU.
