I just don't understand what is taking so long.

Taking so long for what? The gov. is not rebuilding everyones houes. Sorry for the language but the gulf coast is seriously F-ed up. Some places/people are doing great, others just want a handout and will never do anything for themselves.

It is hard to find workers or supplies sometimes. Some places were rental properties. The owners have to take care of their own place or find a place before fixing the rental place. There are others that already moved away and left their old property to sit and rot and hopefully the land will go back up in value. Some are waiting to see if they will be able to rebuild or if their land will a no build zone. Still other properties got covered in oil and are contaminated now and cant rebuild and the houses are just sitting. A lot of people were living in gov. provided housing that will not be rebuilt. Some people do not want those poeple to come back.

Me personally, I was offered a loan, I did not want to be in debt, I had other options (SC). I was renting and did not have insurance. I was left with not much money and no place to live (down there).

There were friends who I did not hear form for a couple months. I know people that stayed in St. Bernard Parish for the storm and did not hear from them for awhile. Monte3, I am not trying to attack you in this post, just showing why and how some things happen. St. Bernard parish filled up with water from the Gulf, from the Miss. River overflowing,9th ward levee break, MRGO Miss. River Gulf Outlet. The entire parish was under water.

It was bad, very bad.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.
