I used a cut off wheel on a small hobby type dremel tool (about the size of a quarter when it was new) and cut the race about 90% of the way through. Then harassed it with a chisel to finish breaking it and finally fish it out. It worked really well for me and took no time at all with no collateral damage either. This is what I would do.

when i did my clutch, we had the same problem getting it out. we tried grease, and a couple of other things. the thing that worked for us was this. my dad used a old dry wall screw that he added a little material with a torch. we then used it like a slide hammer. it came right out after we did that. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I had this same problem. The dust cover came apart but I did not destroy the inner race luckily. In the future, the pilot bearing pullers seem to be too large to fit inside the bearing properly, so I used only one half of it and wedged a piece of wood inbetween the half of the puller and the inner race. Slide hammer and it came right out. In your case I agree with the loaner from autozone hopefully there is space behind the outer and seat itself, if so it should coome right out w/ the puller and slide hammer....Good Luck!

Rent a pilot bearing puller form the 'zone. Or any kind of puller that will go through the center and expand to grab it, instead of the kind that grabs from the outside in.
Personally, I'd find a large nut that fit through the center of what's left, and weld it in there. Then thread a bolt into it, and use a slide hammer to tap it out.

slide hammer with a small hook on the end... just big enough to slip in behind the bearing. Two pulls and it will be out. I'll never do the grease trick again. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

This is what I did about a year ago with my pilot bearing, just be very careful not to cut through the bearing chase and into the crank shaft. I cut one slot into the outter chase and then another about 1/2 inch away. Then tapped it out with a screw driver and hammer. Worked like a charm.
