I've seen clean air tests done with both having and not having an EGR system (Ontario requires this test if living in certain areas of Ontario). I've seen non EGR engines put out less junk then some EGR equipped engines with perfectly running EGR systems.

I guess my problem was the introduction of "environmentalism" as a dicussion here. It seemed selective. I don't mind talking about the environment and what we can do about it, but then that discussion needs to include every aspect of our lives, since every aspect of our lives impacts the environment. So, do the individuals who balked at blanking the EGR valve, also use low flush toilets, recycle all their paper, and only buy products from companies that don't use 3rd world countries to manufacture and pollute? Or was this a selective item they could rant about without making any real change in their lives?

Or is this environmentalism with a 4x4 angle? Do they then refuse to run their trucks across streams and rivers? I mention this because most vehicles are basically a toxic teabag of oil, diesel (or gas), brake fluid, tranny fluid, battery acid, antifreeze, and bearing grease. And there are a lot of environmental groups, and natural protection groups who would love to see an end to the invasion of the 4x4s and Quads in the bush. They are literally tearing it up and ruining it.

Now I don't care what you do, my personal impression is that the world is on a steep slide to hell anyway. I have come to terms with the fact that I drink bottled water, can't hunt where I used to (traditional archery - no training wheels), and have to wear sunscreen all the time.

And so, I am blanking my EGR valve. But didn't get it done this weekend, had to go get firewood (chainsaw, blue smoke, falling trees and dying squirrels for those who are interested).
