mine has been stuck clicked into the belt...not so good, kind of another hazard, probably should be one of those recall things that Toyota hasnt been sued about enough over to care about...not sure what is wrong with yours, sorry just felt like venting about it...im considering 4-point harnesses this year, just going to unbolt the stockers...

Contact toyota directly. Bad seatbelts are really bad. I had to replace mine, and the new ones are much better. kept the old ones for science class and the retractors lock up at random times leaving me in a small lurch... I find giving them a good whack tends to free them up...

Have you tried gently tapping the lower part of the door area where the retractor assembly is?

At this point, I may "gently tap" with my trusty hammer.. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />

I'm gonna contact Toyota and tell them of my documentation of their seat belt problems...
If I die in a crash.. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />, this documentation will be given to my attorney....
My heirs will then probably buy a Mercedes.... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" />

Appreciate the replies/help....

Gently tapped the inside panel right by the retractor mechanism....
Used a rubber mallet.....

Many thanks for the help/idea.....

My driver's side '96 T-100 extra cab seat belt suddenly started locking-up. I have 105K miles, so I doubt a free replacement is covered. I sprayed a little silicone down the hole where it retracts and it seemed to helped a little bit. The seat belts have been flaccid forever (getting slammed in the doors regularly). It is only a recent thing that the belt locks randomly and on one occasion I had to drive home 'illegally' because the belt refused to release. Gosh, I felt naked. lol Alot of drivers in Kentucky fail to even use their belts, but it feels wrong without it fastened (not to mention unsafe).

So I just smack the retractor part with a rubber mallet against the panel? I don't want to pay a couple hundred bucks on a new one, though the yellow tag is exposed on the belt saying something like "if you can see this, the belt needs to be replaced".

You can remove the unit and then the cover, cleaning the crud out of the ball and cup.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Both seatbelts got stuck on my 1998 T100, somewhere about 80,000 miles. My dealer repaired them for free.
