It's not so much the carrier that's odd, but the pinion. You can use a standard R&P, but it takes some custom work to sleve the pinion. Not saying it can't be done, but I'd go with a bigger axle for SAS before I'd spend the money to regear a 2nd gen, or any D44 for that matter.
