Getting the Wheeling Fever
Thanks for the info here everyone. At least this gives him a place to start.

He's going to the junkyard in the morning to look at other trucks to see if he can find the marks. I have to work so I won't be able to go with him...

Some of the info above seems to contradict a little...

Are the degree marks on the drivers side or the passengers side?

I'm 99% sure they're on the driver side.

Body Damage is Cool
YEP ISLAND RACER IS CORRECT ON THIS ONE ABOUT THE 2.3 TIMING MARKS , THEY ARE ON THE LOWER PLASTIC CVR IN THE EXACT SAME SPOT AS THE 2.6 , IN FACT THE CVRS ARE THE SAME PT NO, HOWEVER THE PULLEY /DAMPNER ASSY IS COMPLETELY DIFF, THE 2.6 USES THE DAMPNER THAT SLIDE ONTO THE CRANKSHAFT NOSE AND THE CENTER BOLT GOES IN TO HOLD IT ON , AND THE ACCESSORY DRIVE PULLEY BOLTS ON WITH 4 BOLTS , THE 2.3 HAS A HUB THAT BOLTS ON WITH THE SAME CENTER BOLT BUT THE ACCESSORY DRIVE PULLEY/PULLEYS (2) BOLT ON WITH 8 6 MM BOLTS AND THEY CANNOT BE INTERCHANGED BECAUSE OF THE TIMING GEAR SPACING .. 0* on the tab is pretty much straight up (12 o'clock). The reason I say passenger side is because the tab reads from 0* to 12* BTDC from right to left. Anything right of 0* is retarded enough to run like crap on a stock engine.

......................Degrees: 12 8 4 0
Marks in increments of 2: ||||||||

............................<advanced|retard>

This is based on memory and if it serves me right the numbers are correct. Otherwise, whatever number is left of 0* will determine the increments per mark. *dont mind the dots before degrees, i used them to align the sketch...

Now that I think about it, I did try to use my 2.3 pulley on the 2.6 motor and it rubbed the lower timing cover and the ac/alt belts didn't line up. I ended up punching another mark on the center section of the "slipped" 2.6 pulley.

Thanks... That tells me exactly where the marks should be.
