Exhaust

I have to admit that there wasnÆt much science put into the exhaust. I havenÆt had much experience with V8 exhaust, so it was more of a question: ôHow to fit itö than ôHow should it be doneö.

All the people who are reading this post and who are more educated than me and know what works for V8 and what not, please put your comments in here.

Exhaust manifolds are stock. Definitely not the best solution, but I couldnÆt find anything else that would clear out with steering shaft. Long tube manifolds would have been probably be the best choice, but I guess they needed to be custom in that case, especially on driverÆs side to pass front driveshaft.
I cannot remember what was the manifold outlet flange diameter, but it was ôsmallö (maybe 2.5ö)

I looked some Silverados and Escalades exhausts and found out that some of them had a bigger diameter (3ö) exhaust than others (I guess 2.5-2.75). All the 3ö exhausts that I saw had first foot of tube still smaller diameter. Not sure was it desired or not, but I decided to do it the same way. I bought æ04 Silverado 3ö exhaust tubes from junk yard and used it mostly for turns. Both side manifolds are going into 2.7ö pipe that is about foot long and after the turn itÆs going into 3ö pipe.

I wanted to get straight through muffler and as much volume as possible. Ideally 1 big muffler for both sides. My choice was Magnaflow 3 chamber straight through muffler. Not knowing exactly how am I going to use them I bought 2 of these and tried to fit them under the car but they got from one side too close to the frame and on the other side too close to driveshaft. I had to choose: either I use 1 muffler, or modify something to fit 2 of them to get better flow and more volume. I decided to combine somehow 2 of them into a small space. The biggest problem was width and as I wanted one big muffler instead of 2 smaller ones anyway, I connected them by cutting a slice from both of them. I also needed to cut open center section on one of them to be able to weld together inside walls. àStory is getting complicated, so I better put some pics up hereà

At the first place the exhaust system was built with catalytic converters, after I made also resonators with the same length and flanges to replace cats. The resonator are showed below

For the building process the tubing was rigidly attached to the chassis and after adding hangers, these attachments were cut.

The result.
The sound is good. Not too loud at idle or highway speed, but pretty aggressive at WOT. Power wise I donÆt know what to compare with. Power feels good, but I guess without reference it would feel good anyway either it has 10hp more or 10hp less. HavenÆt been on a dyno jet, will try to get there soon.

...If after seeing these pics some people want to ask where's the driver's seat going to be mounted ... give me some time, the next chapter will be "the Floor"
