im lookong to get 4.88 gearing for my 1990 22re. Anyways i was just wondering how they were in normal day driving and highway. This is my everyday transportation. Also if you know were to find them off a 4-runner let me know. Thanks Brett

They work fine with the right sized tire. I run 4.88s on my '85 w/ 33s and it works great.

itll be alright. if you do alot of highway miles, you may want to consider running 4.56 gears. 4.88's and 32's will be a little wound out at speeds over 65mph.

I was referred to these people by ZUK and they seem to have great prices, easy to work with. They also have a special right now for toyota gearing. Check it.

Auto or manual tranny?
Auto, it's better than stock, just beacuse of the tall overdrive gear. Manual will be OK IMO. I run 33's and 5.29's with a manual, not too bad on the highway. runs about 3k at 70mph.

Hope this helps,
Todd

4.88s were stock gears for 1992-1995 Pickups and 4runners that came with a V-6, auto transmission and 31" tires.

With a 22RE, 4.88s would work great for 31-33" tires.

Burns huh? The last frontier. Love it down there. I'll bet it's cold as heck right now. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
