13 pages? It's only 2 pages for me. Change your settings, and it doesn't seem as crazy.

Let me ask you YES people my riddle again because it is the spirit of the original riddle. Depending on your answer will determine one of two things...

If a glider going 100MPH GS touches down on a treadmill going 100MPH GS in the opposite direction - does it stop instantly?

If you answer yes it will stop - then it is semantics and we are interpreting the original riddle differently. If you say no you are not understanding the concept.

Remember the original riddle does not concern itself with thrust. Only speed of plane. So the glider is completely appropriate and I think helps visualize the concept a little better

I have been really wondering about this.
It seems to me that you think it will stop instantly??????

What is going to stop it's forward motion??? It DOES have momentum. A treadmill in the opposite direction will stop it sooner than normal, but certainly not instantly. The only thing that stops a glider is friction, or lack of momentum. The treadmill will increase friction, because of opposite direction. But definitly not enough to stop it instantly. About the only thing that would stop it instantly......is if it runs into a solid wall.

Two MRI's and a CAT scan....it's confirmed. I'm just not right in the head.

Mythbusters is trying the plane and treadmill thing on their next show.

Sorry I dont know when it comes on, I only saw the commercial.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

A. Plane will not fly. No airflow over the wings. Ground speed is irrelevant to flight, it's airspeed that counts. Carrier captain bellows "turn her into the wind and give me flank speed and prepare to recover aircraft..." He DOES NOT say "Fire up the treadmill and reduce speed"...
B. Glider will not stop. Glider wheel will attempt to speed up to 200mph, and glider may slow slightly from force to overcome wheel inertia.
C. The air in the box (car/elevator/younameit) is moving with the box. Anything flying in the box is flying in the air. In vacuo is a different story...

All clear, now???
