Vacuum switching valve of some sort. What's the manifold off of?

Yep 3.0. Now what does it do? What would happen if it were hooked up backwards?

If it connects to the charcoal cannister, that is what sucks the gas fumes out when the engine is running. A 2-port VSV can be hooked up either way, it is just an open or closed valve.

So if it were hooked up wrong would it effect idle?

Probably not, but one way to find out is to swap the hoses and see if it makes any difference.

If it was only that easy. Its in the back of the engine in a hard to reach spot. I broke one of the tabs off when I was rebuilding the engine. I just took one from the junkyard that looked similar.

I broke a pipe off once (once, so far), and repaired it with JB Weld on it's exterior. This bi-metal vacume switching valve (BVSV) opens or closes with or without heat. My 2 cents <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/drunk.gif" alt="" />.
