you can always add a spacer to accomplish the 3" but a diff drop is a must. REVTEK makes a 3" lift kit spacer that you can use stock spring and shocks with.

are there 3" lifts out there for the front?? A few of the kits claim 3" instead of 2.5" or whatever, but they are all limited by the IFS geometry. I think Fabtech offers a diff drop kit for Tacomas that can be adapted for 4Runners for a few more inches, but I only know of one person who tried it - they soon got rid of it and instead went to a solid front axle for that amount of lift.
