Thanks, That worked great and timing was not very hard. I still have the same problem, though. The car is getting too much air causing the vacuum to go very low. I checked all hoses and the valves. There seem to be no air leaks. I isolated the problem to the air intake, either the Mass airflow sensor or the main ECU unit. I also replaced the camshaft position sensor as I was told by the dealer and the mechanic, no change. I am not sure which route to take from here. The car has been to a mechanic I know and the dealer, both wanted more than what the vehicle is worth and neither one is sure of what is going on with it. On the other hand I may be looking for either a mass airflow sensor or ECU for it. Thanks

Ps. it is a '98 sportage 2wd 4d

Check the hose from your MAF to the engine air intake tube. The rubber hose has a habbit of tearing in the folds and can cause a lean condition because that air bypasses the MAF.

Unfotunately this was not it. How do you test a sensor or the ECU? to determine if they are bad. Is there a place where I can get that done. Thanks <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I am not clear on what you mean by low vaccuum. Are you having a lean condition, the engine running rough? Have you cleaned the electrical connectors on the MAF, IAC, and TPS, these are common problem areas.

If you can describe your problem in more detail some one on the forum may be able to help.

...and if you can give us the codes it gives that would help too (in Pxxxx format, we can suss out things better if we know EXACTLY what code was thrown, and not someones "interpretation" of the code)

Here are the codes I got since I replaced the camshaft position sensor. I got them this morning at autozone.

P1115
P0343
P1624
P0102

Lots of codes, what do you think?

..I used a vacuum test to measure vacuum -ve pressure, it was below 5 psi. This was from the left side if you are looking at the intake. And I cleaned all the connectors. Thanks

P0102 Mass Air Flow Volume Air Flow Circuit Low Input

P1115 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Malfunction

P0343 Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit High Input

P1624 MIL Request Siginal from TCM to ECM

There seems to be unrelated issues here. I would look for a bad ground connection or possibly clean the connector on the ECU.

One other thing that could cause a low vaccuum is the IAC if it were stuck in the open position.

I hope this helps.
