does anyone here use any sort of exhaust sealant when putting together exhausts(like around gaskets) I saw a kid at work using something that looked like black rtv, i think it was called walkers acousta seal, but im not positive on the name.

I'll use the orange Hi-Temp RTV sealant on exhaust gaskets downstream of the O2 sensor. Put on a thin coat and let it set for 30 minutes or so then assemble. I don't use any on the exhaust header/manifold gasket.

What if i need some sealant to go btwn downpipe & manifold? The gasket itself is not sealing. Is any high-temp sealant up to the task?

Copper coat. Isn't that supposed to work best on exhaust type applications? The spray on stuff I heard works best. Spray on one coat, let it get tacky, spray on 1 more...let it get tacky, then put in place. I talked to a guy once who said this works well.

What if i need some sealant to go btwn downpipe & manifold? The gasket itself is not sealing. Is any high-temp sealant up to the task? If the gasket's not sealing between the exhaust manifold and downpipe it could be a couple of things- check to be sure the surface that the gaskets (2 on my truck)mate to are smooth. When you tighten it up, go around and tighten a little at a time. That's what eventually worked for me

oh, i tried so many times....not even 2 brand new gasket rings...it's just not sealing at the rear(posterior) end of the flange from strange reason. (& that my stud is now cut helps too! )

Perhaps somethings cracked! It's a tough place to do a close inspect. Removal is a pain, I know, but if you want to do it right..... Two gaskets & sealer just tells me something else is wrong here.

Nothing's crack, it's the mating gap btwn manifold & downpipe. My suspition is that the dp flange wrapped a little or something during welding when my friend modified my downpipe 2 yrs ago... I remember putting in new gasket donut on each pipe & i can still feel the pulsation of the gas blowing out of the gap...
