Getting the Wheeling Fever
I've got an '83 pickup that I've replaced the in three months ago. I noticed two days ago a strong vibration in the seat when going over 65 mph. If I press in the clutch the vibration goes away. If I release the clutch whether in gear or neutral the vibration returns but goes away under 65 mph. My fix is to not go over 65 mph but I'd like to know what I could have done wrong with the clutch install. It works flawlessly. All I can figure is something on the pressure plate.

Thoughts?

when you installed the clutch did you use the alignment tool?
if the clutch disk is not alligned properly that would cause a vibration.

Yes, I did. I should say that the vibration just started and that's 3 months after the clutch install. I'm going to look at the u-joints first.

if your gonna check that route.... after checking u-joints, check the big nut at the front of the rear pinion. they have a tendency to work themself loose

Do you mean under the slip yoke that can only be seen if I remove the rear drive shaft?

You also will not get the tranny to seat all the way in.

Have you checked the throwout bearing?

Check both of the nuts, the one on the pinion and the one on the T-case.

Throwout bearing was replaced with the clutch. I'm looking for everything before I go pulling the tranny again.

I tightened the rear pinion bolt but it wouldn't move. I'll try the front, too.

I removed the driveshaft and there is slop in both the rear end and transmission but I can see any movement in the ujoints. The flange on the rear end will move 1/4" or so. I jacked up the rear end and turned the flange moving the wheels. It feels slightly rough but nothing I wouldn't expect from a 23 year old vehicle.
